The sun is already dark spring has gone

Longing for memories on the hill of the old-hometown soul

The wind pushes the butterflies up without ambiguity

The mass of people crowd together in silence

The ghost smiles lonely on the moonlit path

The tea pot has been repeatedly filled up then runs out

Who’s drinking the blood of the moon under the eternal palace

The rain suddenly sprays two misty drops

Remember the charm of spreading smiling rows of teeth

Look, your tongue is scratching the high wind

Blowing to the stiflingly mesmerizing wharf of infatuation

Đặng Thân is a notable bilingual poet, fiction writer, critic and essayist, based in Vietnam. As “the typical figure of Post-Doi Moi Literature,” his works in various genres “have created the utmost important turning-point in the writing style of Vietnamese literature.” He pioneers Vietnamese alliteration and a new style named “phạc-nhiên” in poetry and ideology. He has been invited to numerous international poetry festivals. In 2019, his poetry book OM [Other Moments] was first published in the USA and quickly translated into many other languages. His poetry has garnered prestigious international prizes: Naji Naaman, Il Meleto di Guido Gozzano, Panorama Global, Cape Comorin Best Poetry Award and Premio I Colori del’Anima. Also, he has become the first Vietnamese author having poems exhibited and housed at the World Museum of Poetry in Piacenza, Italy.
